public spaces

In addition to the unique, individual quality of the projects, the “Cité des Sciences” (City of Science) should be considered in a more global fashion, in order to bestow a unique and coherent identity upon it, as it lies at the heart of the Blast Furnace Terrace. The planning of public spaces plays an important role in this multidimensional project involving around twenty architects, since it takes place at a historic and industrial site, surrounded by vast agricultural landscapes and woodland. The incorporation of several major components – paving, water, “tapis de mobilier”, conservatories, urban art – has given way to a succession of spaces, all of varying shapes and sizes, while still maintaining a human element on this site that was originally so marked by industry on an enormous scale.
