public art experience

The artists are selected by public tenders. Competitors will be judged by the Artistic Advisory Board and the Director of Residency who will define the selection criteria and shortlist the artists to be submitted to the Board of Directors. The complexity, eloquence and contextuality of the projects are key criteria.

Artists will therefore receive a fee for the entire duration of their residency. They will be paid for the act of creation, for their work. The donation will become property of Fonds Belval. Artists furthermore commit to relinquishing all ancillary rights to Fonds Belval with the proviso that it may not sell part or all of the works. Inasmuch as the works may not be sold they have no commercial value. Fonds Belval in turn pledges to build a public collection with all the works it will obtain via this scheme. This collection shall remain a public good of which Fonds Belval is merely the trustee.
