strategy

The strategy of the Public Art Experience consists of implementing a regular succession of public art projects. The aim is to create a “perpetuum mobile” where each project draws on the achievement of its predecessor. To do so, each project focuses on a prescribed theme. Artists from all disciplines are encouraged to compete and may address the subject at hand as they wish. Participants will be selected from a list of applicants as part of a call for entries compliant with the provisions outlined in the Law of 30 July 1999. The selected artists will be asked to develop their project in the framework of a residency that concludes with the implementation of an artwork. The entire process will be public so as to involve as diverse audiences as possible in a range of specific events including lectures, public discussions, debates, studio visits and workshops.
The residency will be sited in Belval / on the Blast Furnace Terrace, which is set to become a life-size laboratory for art in public space, a centre for artistic production and a lively place for art. The artworks may be ephemeral, perennial or even nonexistent. Their development and implementation will be thoroughly documented. This documentation, as much as the works themselves, will constitute the cultural value generated by the Public Art Experience project.
